A letter to Brother Li – by 05142 Li Yi Fu

Translated by George Wang

Dear Brother Li,

How are you? I just started as a high school student and the school work has occupied most of my time. During my calls to you, I frequently lost my own thoughts when your voice came out over the phone. Whatever I tried to say, they went up to the air. So, here I am talking to you in a letter.

As a freshman my daily life seems to be surreal. Everything is still new to me. We introduced ourselves, consulted each other, and talked about our past experiences and future dreams. We started to know each other better after the first few weeks. There are no spoiled princes or princesses among us. We help each other and we bond nicely. Fate has placed us together as classmates to study and live as a group. I like my classmates; I enjoy their company and smiles. This environment is a gift from heaven.

We are going to have a sport event in a few weeks. Male students are the “endangered species” in my class (14 boys out of 49 students). All males, myself included, are drafted for the event. I am practicing daily for it. I am hoping that we will perform well.

Brother Li, I wish you well and healthy. Are there things you enjoy outside of your busy work? I wish you are always in a good mood, just like the bright sunshine.
