FOUNDATION NEWSLETTER
December 2018, issue No. 51
Translated By Neil Sun
Dear Friends,
Peach will admit 1,800 new children in 2019. During this tax planning
season, we sincerely ask for your help to promote our tax-deductible donation
to your relatives and friends. Your continuing support to the organization is
greatly appreciated.
2018 Volunteer
Exploration Trip – In 2018 between Oct 20th and 27th, a group consist of 22 volunteers went
to Ninglang County, Lijiang City, Yunnan Province. They visited the current Peach
students and their parents to provide the needed consultation and encouragement
in order to ensure the students continue their pursuit for higher education.
I made a special trip to Xinyingpan village. Five
years ago, I visited Ms. Deng and her three daughters there. She threw herself
into my arms and sobbed non-stop. She said that life is so harsh that she would’ve
died if it wasn’t for her children. That year, I admitted all three girls into
Peach. Five years had passed, the two older girls are studying in reputable
universities and the third girl is in high school. When we met again, I asked
Ms. Deng: "Do you recognize me? Do you remember what I said to you five
years ago?" "Of course, I remember!" Ms. Deng replied with a
smile. "You said though it is the lowest point of my life but it will get a
bit better each day starting tomorrow. In the past five years, our whole family
has being working hard to make it come true.”
I am grateful that, like Ms. Deng, countless families of Peach parents
have being supporting their children’s education!
Staff Home Visit Trip –
Following the Volunteer Group trip, the Peach employees visited 11 targeted
counties. Their tasks are to communicate with the teachers, visit the current
Peach students, and conduct home-visits in order to discover children who need the
most help.
New Site – Peach provided 150 new sponsorships to Ludian county (adjacent to Huize
County), in Zhaotong City, Yunnan Province. The
number of sponsorship will have gradual increase if the result is successful.
In 2014, a 6.5-magnitude earthquake hit the Ludian
County. The government helped to re-built. However, 90% of Ludian
County is mountainous and serious water shortage is a constant problem
throughout the year. As the result, farming income source is singular and
competitive due to limited crops that can be grown. And in the winter of 2017, a
picture of a 7-year old “ice boy" reflected the poverty of Ludian County; and it shocked the entire nation of China.
2019 Winter Camp is from Feb 12th to 21st at the Honghe No.1
High School. It will host 300 single-parent orphaned children. 50 Peach students,
who are now in college, will return to teach these new orphan students. By way
of sharing their own personal experience, it provides powerful examples to
encourage new students to stay in school and to continue their dreams of having
higher education.
2019 Summer Camp – Schedules are as follows. All volunteer teachers’
positions are already full.
Session A: 7/17 to 7/27/2019 at Yuanyang, Yunnan Province. Full
Session B: 7/27 to 8/6/2019 at Huize, Yunnan Province. Full
Session C: 8/6 to 8/16/2019 at Ninglang, Lijiang, Yunnan Province. Full
2019 Volunteer
Exploration Trip – The next volunteer group is now opened for registration. It is scheduled
for Oct 19th to 26th, 2019 at the Honghe County and Yuanyang County, Honghe
Prefecture, Yunnan Province. Both counties are famous for the rice terrace
scenery.
Attached #1 is the Christmas gift brochure. The children need the
support from you, your relatives, and your friends. Any donation toward student
sponsorship, summer camp, or any other Peach Foundation activities is greatly
appreciated! Every dollar represents the human kindness. Thank you from the
bottom of our hearts!

I am an orphan. On May 20, 2003, my grandfather found me and adopted me
when he went to work in the field.
Everyone wants a happy family. Playing with parents or making them
angry, the family is happy regardless. But that is extravagant to me since my
parents have never looked for me. In my memory, my only playing company is a
group of chipping chicks while living in an earthy house which roof can below
away by any strong wind.
My family consists
of my elderly grandfather and my father who is deaf and cannot speak. Majority
of our monthly living expenses came from grandfather’s low insurance payout. Grandpa
is 90 years old this year, his body and spirit is worsening. His hands and feet
are not flexible. He needs to take often breaks just after a few steps. His
vision has also greatly diminished. He did not recognize me when I went home
last time. My heart is filled with sadness every time I think of my
grandfather's white hair and his thin and slightly hunchback. Grandfather
brought me up and I want to grow old with him. I wish to slow down the time and
spend more time with him.
Grandfather’s burden is very heavy because father is born with the
disability and cannot take care of himself. We live a very hard life. There are no modern appliances such as
refrigerator, washing machines, etc. And we have to count every penny for our
spending. Now I am graduating from middle school. The expensive tuition in high
school made me feel guilty. I know that our family can't afford it. Even though
I want to be strong, but my meager ability cannot change the fact of being
poor.

When I was a child, father drank a lot. And he fought with mother every
time when he was drunk. Day after day, I cried myself to sleep. I was sick of
this life style.
Father kicked Grandpa and Grandma out of the house. He also slapped
mother around constantly. I said to Mother: "Is this our destiny? Am I
destined to live such a life? I hate Father!" Mother would say: "So
you must learn to change this life for yourself. Don’t follow my footsteps.”
On several occasions, I said to Mother: "This is my life. I can't
change a thing. I don't want to study anymore." Mother would cry: "If
you really believe so, then you must think about the reason why I stayed and
suffered so much.” I cried and never mentioned “not wanting to go to school”.
One day, father was acting up again. He hit my older brother and left
scars on his face. Afterwards, people must have concluded “Like Father like
Son”. They isolated us. Nobody cared about us. I become more and more
irritable. I was full of rage and cried every day.
My older brother said: "The biggest enemy in life is nobody else
but oneself." The teacher said: "You can only rely on yourself."
Mom said: "You just do your best to study. I only live for you and your
brother. No matter what you become, you are my pride.” After listening to them,
I changed completely. I know that there are people who love me in this world.
And I must study hard.
