About Nepal
Peach Foundation
A.Nepal
Nepal has a per capita GDP of $1,381, ranking 161st out of the 190 countries.
The caste system in Nepal is deeply rooted, dividing people into different classes. The Dalits or the "untouchables" are at the bottom of the caste system and many Nepalis belong to this caste. Dalits in Nepal face many injustices. Through education, I believe that we can do our share in breaking this blatant inequality.
We are fortunate to locate a local partner - a Dalit doctor who overcame tremendous hurdles to become a doctor. During his studies, he was targeted repeatedly by the medical school due to his caste background. He had to sue the school in court and won his case to secure his diploma.
Peach entrusts partners and local schools to recommend outstanding Dalit girls. We will provide scholarships of $150 USD per year to students in junior high school, and $300 to students in senior high school. Peach will also provide interest-free loans to college students.
B.Projects
1. Grant scholarships to elite yet poor Dalit students.
2. Donate books to Dalit children.
