China Project - Winter Camp

2013-2019,Peach started a new program - the Lost Pearl Project. In addition to the 600 ninth graders who rank in the top 20% in their schools, we added 300 seventh graders who are either orphans or girls from single-parent families. We have learned that there are many orphans in the villages where our existing students are from. We witnessed higher than average drinking problems, domestic violence, divorces, deaths, and child abandonment in these families. Poverty, lack of education, and poor access to medical care are among some of the problems that plague these areas. As a result, the children are left to suffer. These innocent children either give up on themselves or take a wrong turn when they have no one to lean on in the face of these cruel challenges.

In order to connect with these children and their unique needs, we hold a Winter Camp where we design the courses to bring love and support to them. We tutor the students in their schoolwork and support their emotional needs with classes like ?Happy Life,? ?Q&A,? movies, and games. In addition, we invited outstanding Peach college students to be the Winter Camp teachers. It is our hope that these Big Brothers and Big Sisters, who also struggled with poverty and related challenges, can lead the children by example and guide them with a proper value system , teaching them the importance of education. Our goal is to help these orphans either continue to high school, or go to a vocational school to learn a skill so they can be financially independent.

We are not accepting general volunteer teachers for the Winter Camp at this time, due to the special needs of our students in the ?Lost Pearl Project.?
