Translated by George Wang

My family consists of seven members.  My parents used to work out-of-town year-round to support us.  Then my father had a brain injury from a car accident.  His life was saved after spending 50,000 yuan in medical expense.  Nevertheless, He lost a piece of his skull, his entire hearing and some memory. He has since lived in his own isolated world of silence.  With the piling debt, Mom works out-of-town all the time except the Chinese New Year and the harvest season.  She is a peasant, has no formal education and earns only a meager wage.  I wish I can help, but there is little I can do for her.

My brothers and I have been living with our grandparents.  Grandpa unfortunately was struck by disease which crippled and disabled him.  Grandma in turn injured her shoulder from a fall.  I am saddened by the family misfortunes.   I am strong and I am convinced that I can emerge from these setbacks.

My father always encouraged us to stay the course on education.  He said that he could pay for my high school fees by borrowing from others. The reality is that we cannot possibly support both my brother, who is in school, and me.  I thought about quitting a lot, but Mom urged me to persist.  Their words of encouragement reinforced my determination.  I shall study hard and fight for my future.
